What's been announced
- Loans for everyone: government-backed low or zero-interest loans for solar panels, home batteries and heat pumps.
- Grants for some low-income homes: fully funded grants for measures like rooftop solar, where households can't afford the cost.
- Details to follow: the government said it would publish more details later in 2026, working with banks and lenders.
What we don't know yet
- Interest rates, loan sizes and repayment terms.
- Exactly who qualifies for the grants, and how much they cover.
- When applications open.
We'll update this page when details are published.
Should you wait?
If you'd pay cash anyway, waiting for a loan may not help, and the 0% VAT deadline is 31 March 2027. If you'd need to borrow, a zero-interest government loan could be much cheaper than a normal loan, so it may be worth waiting for the details.
Other help available now
- 0% VAT on solar panels until 31 March 2027.
- Export payments through the Smart Export Guarantee.
- Some councils run their own schemes. Check your council's website.
